Norman Speller

Cabinet Maker

In the early seventies I attended Thurrock Technical College Essex for two years studying fine art and sculpture. My early employment was as an improver with a small local joinery company.

I have worked as a carpenter; joiner; head joiner; joinery manager; production manager and finally as Head of design and planning.

In late 2010 I made the decision to make and design furniture full time. My experience from studying form in sculpture, attention to detail as a head joiner and later as a draughtsman all play a key part to producing a timeless piece, while working closely with the client.

I work with solid hard wood and veneers with the introduction of glass, stainless steel, slate and stone should the design require. From small free standing pieces to larger fitted items to small boxes that commemorate that special occasion, I consider each piece as functional sculpture.
